A GOLDEN WEDDING.
The Oamaru Mail, of Saturday has the following;—The celebration of poldenweddings bids fair to become a very comtnoo events, Last week we chronicled one event of the kind, yesterday a second took piece, and we hear a third will be held next week. The happy cou; le who yesterday completed the fiftieth year of their wedded life ' are Mr and Mrs James Hendeison, Coquet-stceet, who have been resident in this district for nearly 13 years and are surrounded by a very numerous family and a large circle of friends. Mr Henderson Is 72 years cf age, bat those -who saw him - Lifting it merrily in a Highland reel last night, as live'y as a kitten, would believe him to be a much younger man. Mrs Henderson is 70 years of age, and, except that she suffers from cbenmatiem, iaspparently hale and beany. They have five sons, and seven daughters, all living and in health, so far os is known. They have also 58 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, two of the latter being present at last night’s festivities. With the exception of the eldest son and bis family, who are in England, the whole of these 74 descendants are in New Zealand, and over one-half of the number assisted In the celebration of the memorable event. In the afternoon there was a re-union of the grandchildren in the Oddfellows’ Hall, where the Rev Mr Spence, In the absence of the Bev A. B. Todd, conducted religious observances ■nltable to the occasion, in the evening fully 100 relatives and friends partook of an excellent supper in the same hall, and thereafter a pleasant night was spent in congratulatory addresses, appropriate songs, and dancing.
