Orosabred wools formed the bulk of the catalogue, mostly in fair condition, and every lot sold at fro nr 7d to 9J-1 per lb, merino wool np to 81, aod long wool from 6JI to7d. Several buyers from Chria'churcn were in altendanoj also the energetic manager of tbe Ashburton Woollen Factory, each eagerly competing at tbe sale. Tbe farmers, who were of course the senders, mastered in great force, showing the most intent interest in. tbe sale. At the close the opinion generally was that they ought to be satisfied with the results attained, not only as far as prioas were concerned, but that they had succeeded in establishing a wool market at their own doors. H. Matson and Co, , Messrs H. Matson and Cj. report: On Friday we held, at our wool store, ' Wear, street, the first of oar wool sales for the season. Our cstvlogue comprised 1590 bales, principally crossbred. There was a large attendance of local and foreign buyers, and the biddings throughout were keen and spirited. The prices real sed were very satisfactory, and out of the total catalogued we cleared 370 bales. The balance had to be withdrawn owing t) Instructions as to its disposal not having come to bat.d. The highest p-ice realised for first cross hoggets was 9f i. and for good meric os 8:1 AH locks and pieces offered realised full values. Messrs Friedlander Bros, held their first wool sale of the season yesterday, when they submitted about 300 bales wool and a large quantity of bag wool, omprLi’g locks and pieces. The attendance was large, both the growers and the buyers being largely represented. The bidding throughout was very spirited, and the sale on the whole must be considered highly satisfactory, aa the prices realised compare very favorably with those ruling in our large centres.
