LAND SALES.
CROWN LANDS. SOUTH RAKAIA.
On Tuesday Mr Baker, the Commissioner of Crown Lands, held a sale of town sections and village settlement blocks, at the Town Hall, South Rakaia. There was a good attendance, but no opposition for town sections. The following is the result of the day’s sale ; South Rakaia Township.

Mr Baker had to i terforo to restore order. The upset price for section 34 was £9 ss, and was run up by a non-resident Lot 40 ran up from upset price, £1416s 3d. * WAIMaTB. An important sal© of land took place at Stndholme junction yesterday when 2775 a rea of the celebrated Walmate e tate were submitted to auction. About 2550 ac ts were laid off in suitable sized farms varying from about 30 acres to 150 acres each, aod some 224 acres were subdivided into suburban sections of from 5 acres to 18 acres each, these lota being situated on either side of the Walmate township. The bulk of the land has been down in English grasses for a number of years, while the balance is either under crop or in fallow, t us rendering the whole ready for immediate and profitable occupation. The auctioneer commenced tho sale by offering some sections varying in extent from five acres to eleven acres, and ituated close to the town ship The first was a*artcd £5 per sere, and was quickly knocked down £7 per acie The com etitlon for the n»*xt few sections was pretty spirited, and buyers were forthcoming at ..rices ranging from £6 per acr» up io £l4 10i par acre Another lot of suburban sections were afterwards sold, and were eagerly caught np at prices varying from £4 10s to £5 ss, £6 10a and up v.o £LOa. The small farms, however, did not sell so readily, though the reserves were well within the value of the land, snd the reach of any one who might faigre been there in want of a desirable piece of ligd ou which to make a home.
