THE KIMBERLEY GOLDFIELDS
Melbourne. November 17. News from Kimberley goldfields continues to be contradiorr-ry. The trustworthy account comes from the correspondent of the Sydney Morning Herald, who is at McPhee’a Greek, on the goldfield, tie writes on September 22nd as follows:—“The worst possible accounts of failure, disappointment, and hardship continue to come in from all sides. The men are moving duly from one camp to another, and all have the same cry—“ Nothing doing anywhere.” Judging by the number of fresh arrivals who are daily coming in, hundreds must still be en route. The blacks recently attacked a camp of five men, and wounded two with spears, one of whom died shortly afterwards. The blacks escaped In the darkness. Fears are entertained of serious conflicts as the iry weather comes on for the possession f the permanent waters, on which the blacks had previously depended. ”
