(Before Mr ft. Aloor<>, J. P. and Mr H, Fciedlander, J. P.) CHIMNEY ON FIRB. The Captain of .he Snlvat'on Army was charged with having allowed the chimney ,»t the bar racks to take fire. The mature was purely accidental, end the case wis dismissed with a a caution DISTURBING A CONGREGATION. James Charles, for whom Mr Oufhbertson appeared, was charged with having tistnrbed a congregation, to wit the salvation Army, ana mbled for pub’ c vorship —The Captain "I he Army sai ■'< ha defendant ha 1 bean very disorderly, a king, and singing lonclly, “ making nmself foolish," and annoying persons lifting near him. The defendant, who ppeared to be under the influence of drink, was warned to desist on two or h-ee occasions—Harry Wilson, a lioo•enant in the Salvation Army, gave evidence as to the disturbance created by the defendant,—Andrew Mnllaney heard the defendant talking loudly and making a noise during the meeting of the Army, the meeting being much disturbed io aonaeqaence.—Constable Smart said that as a result of a complaint made to him he arrested the defendant.—Mr Outhbertson said the defendant remembered nothing of the circumstance, but if as bad been tlleged he had disturbed the congregation re was extremely omry and was anxious to make amends as far as possible. He asked the Bench to deal lightly with the case. —The Bench thought it a very serious offence to disturb a congregation assembled for worvhip, but as it was not a common one here, and as the defendant had expressed contrition, a light penalty, viz 20a and costs, would be inflicted. If, however, any cases of a similar nature came before the Court again the heaviest penalty possible would be impr 8 ?d. ALLEGED FORGERY. William Hall Z mch was charged upon information with having forged a promissory note for £2s.—Mr Stringer appeared for the accused.—The police applied for a remand for a week which was granted, bail being allowed, the accused io £IOO and two sureties of £JLOO each. The Court then rose.
