THE BIBLE IN SCHOOLS
In an editorial notice of a pamphlet under the above title recently published at this uffioe for the Rev A Blake, M. A. i’inwa d, tha 2feiv Zealend Christian liecotd says :—“Mr Blake presents in a clear, concise, and emtreheneive form the strong reasons which exist for the reiutrodactim of Bible reading in our public schools. He supports his position by testimonies drawn from the most varied authorities which should carry weight with every one who will look at the question in an impartial spirit. The consensus of the feelings and and opinions of Christian countries regarding the necessi'y of acquainting the rising generation with the Bible during their school education, and as an integral part of it, Is shown iu the fact that in all of them, with the exception of Victoria Queensland, South Australia and New Zealand, such instruction is provided f ir in the public schools. The information presented on this and similar points if of special interest to all who desire to see the present agitation brought to a successful issue Meantime under the lawful shade of our secular system, a similar result is shown in New Zealand to that which Bishop Moorhouso lately announced in London regarding t e Victorian educational system, ‘ Under it ’■ W said,' ‘.children grew up in the most profound and deplorable iguatanoe of tha Libia.’ We heartily enumend Mr Blake’s pimpblafc to our reader?. They will find, condensed in brief compass, much information on the whole subject, w hob deserves greater attention than It has of late received."
