IMPORTANT MINING DISCOVERY.

It is not generally Known that a very important discovery has I-tely been made a few miles across the Victorian bo der and one tba'. gives indication or being a Second Mount Morgan. The locality is at Jindora in the ranges, about eight miles from Albury, and withiu easy access from Melbourne The Mount la 800 ft high, and g -I first found Tn the small gutters descending the piles. The finders were tempted to try the top of the mount, and opened a large excavation or quarry 36 r ‘t deep by about 18ft wide, and the whole of the earth taken from the opening was found gold-bearing. A small shaft was sunk Tsft deeper, when far richer deposits were revealed. Prospecting has been carried on round the sides of the mount, and everywhere gold Is to be found, the yield varying from 2dwt to 2oz to the ton. Even the very stones lying on the surface when c uahed have yielded good returns. In cutting a trench at the bottom of iha hill for the purpose of conveying water to the dam two important and highly-pryable reefs have been cut, and as these iee f s come down the side of the hill, the inference is that the whole hill is auriferous. On the phaesn below excellent alluvial wash has been found within the las' few weeks, thus showing that gold has been freely washed down from the hill. Tne stono is easily worked, being almost ent rely decomposed mundic, and crushes easily. The claim which consists of 105 acres, is owned by a private company of six Melbourne gentlemen, and ia called the Soudan. About a mile from the Soudan ia another Important discovery, ana onowhch promises to rival the famous Long Tunnel The claim is called the Bangowannah. A reef of 12ft wide was found on the surface, sod has been proved to a depth of £7ff, where it has < paned out to 22f r between two well-defiued walls Toe whole of th>a reef is expected to average per ton. Trial crush ngs have gone loz to 4oz. The reef has b*ea pr ved 600 ft along the surface, and each of tie trial shafts have given returns equal to the main one. If the reef goes down payable for another 50ft, a mine of immense value will be proved A tunnel has Geen run in from the side of the hill and intersected the shaft. The mine ran bo worked very cheaply, and a fifteen head battery is being erected The contour of the country is similar to th°t of the Soudan, hut iu the Bang wannah the £eef is'- wall defined, whereas in th' Soqdan it is a"tiraly different. The auriferous area so far disc vered is not. very extensive, being about two mile* in length and half a mile in width.— Age
