MASSACRE OF CHRISTIANS IN COCHIN CHINA.
A fp’egram from Kome ? elated September 1, elates ;—‘‘Jntelligeuce has been re oetved here that the natives in northern Cochin China and in eastern Sechocn, Chinese Empire, have risen against tb. Ohnetians, owing to the imprudence of the English and American Protestant mia sionaries. In Cochin China 50 Ohrhtiani have been massacred, bouses set on fire, and fa'ms laid waste, while In Sechnen the massacre of Christians has been general ; villages being burned and the surrounding lands being devastated, The residvix e of the Vicar Apostolic _ was burned to the ground, all his furniture and papers be : ug destroyed by the flames. It is added that the foreign Consuls only escaped with their lives. The native movement against the obt Utlans continued •( Utsst adriosi.”
