+. A Den of Iniquity. Auckland. November 1 The police about 2 o’clock yesterday morning made a descent upon a house on the New North Koad, when a shocking State of immorality was disclosed. A number of young men were on the premises along with girls, aged from 14 to 16 years, who appeared at the Police Court 10-day. The two eldest girls were sentenced to three months’ imprisonment, the younger girl to one month, and the other discharged as it was her first offence. Only £2OO. New Plymouth November 1. The damage by fire yesterday in the mixing house at the harbor works is estimated at not more than £2OO. Supreme Court. Wellington, November 1. At the Supreme Court this morning, William K. hiarsden, who wss convicted at last sittings of the Court and remanded in order to allow the Probation Officer to make a report, was brought up. Tne report was unfavorable, and the chief Justice sentenced him to twelve mo> tha Marriage Act. The Government intend to ask the Government to proclaim the Marriage Act of 1880 applicable to the native iace- At present Clause 2 specially excludes Maoris from the provision of the Act. ’Frisco Mail. The Alameda, with the English mails of 7th October, left ’Frisco for Auckland on the 24th October, one day late. The Maripcsa, with the colonial mails of 12th October, arrived at ’Frisco from Auckland on the 30th October, two days in advance of time-table date. The Mawhera. Gskymouth, November 1. The Mswhera’a position has not altered since she went ashore, ex-rept that she lies at a greater angle to the sea. All the cargo waa lauded in go.d condition early on Saturday afternoon.
