An amusing inc dent occurred at *he Stark Purchase Inquiry. Cop of the witnesses examined was Mr Silas Evith.m, of the North Shore. Mr Eastbatn staled he had been only two y=ara in the c-lony, and was therefore a “ new chum” at;d knew very little of Sir Julius Vogel. Mr O’Meagher, however, pressed tha witness as to his knowledge of Sir Julius Vogel, when Mr Eastham replied as follows:-- “ This is a curious fact I am going to tell you. At one time I baud Sir Julius Vogel to great disadvantage, and he annoyed me the whole night and-kept mj awake. I ‘ slept ’ in the next room to him at tha Waiwera Hotel,- Str Julias Vogel snored most dreadfully. (t aughter.) Thera was only a wooden partition between us and I had the full benefit of Sir Julius Vogel’s—well, I won’t call it voice. (Renewed laughter.) I shall ■ aver f< rg t it. I would not go through tne same agony again for, I might say all that Stark pot ” (Laughter ) Mr O’Meagher : *• You do not want to make his acquaintance again ia the same way 7 ’ Witness : 11 No. Ido not ’
