[REUTER’S TELEGRAMS —COPYRIGHT. ] GOVERNOR OF TASMANIA. London, Oct her 23. It is expected that Sir George DesVcoux, late Governor of Fiji, will be appointed to succeed Sir G. Strahan as Governor of Tasmania. LONDON MARKETS. London, October 23. The total quantity of wheat afloat for the United Kingdom is 1,620,000 quarters, being an increase for the week of So,ooo quarters. Adelaide wheat, ex store, is quoted at 35s ; Adelaide flour, 245; New Zealand wheat, highest 335, lowest 28s. New Zealand mutton is selling at from qQ to qQ in Smiihfield market. Beef tallow 345, mutton tallow 36s 6d. Colonial Government securities remain at last quotations. THE EXHIBITION. London, October 23. The Hon Edward Stanhope entertains the Executive Committee of the Colonial and Indian Exhibition at a banquet on the 10th November. NEW GUINEA. Sir J. Garrick, Agent-General for Queensland, had an interview to-day with the Hon E. Stanhope in reference to the future government of New Guinea. The Secretary of State for the Colonies said Her Majesty’s Government was discussing a scheme for the administration of that colony, but it was not sufficiently matured to permit of a statement being made on the subject. The Hon E. Stanhope expressed the hope that a satisfactory settlement of the question wul shortly be arrived at.

The Western Australian Government have received a report from Kimberley, giving a more encouraging account of the goldfields. DEPUTY GOVERN OR. Melbouus'e, Oetjbor?s. Sir William Stawell, late Chief Justice, has been appointed permanent Deputy Governor of Victoria.
THE NEW GOLDFIELD. Adelaide, October 25
Two hundred persons are now on the Warkaringa goldfields, where provisions are running short. Reports received from the field are less favorable than hitherto.
