TRAVELLING EXPENSES.
The Wanganui Chronic*t has the follow ing w{;h regard to the travelling expenses of Native L'.nd Court Judges : —A com mercial t aveller who is here to day and at New Plymouth, Foxton, or Napier tomorrow, and who passes his life in a constant succession of coach, rail, and steamer, rarely draws more than SOs a day ; yet the Land Court Judge, who is frequently enough stationed In the same place for months and months, has the cheek to demand—arid the authorities ( have the asinine compile j ncy to grant the full expenses of SOs a day for travelling And they are a stingy lot too, some of these judges One gentleman not on known In Wsngmui chaffered and bargained with the Wanganui hotel-keepers until he could get bis board and lodging for 25s per week, just like an ordinary mortal, and yet the same old 1 Mr Screw em down’was drawing his SOs per d»y from a suffering country for ‘ travelling expenses.’ Wo have a good many frauds existing at the expense of the longsuffering taxpayer—the travelling allowance of the Native Land Conrt Judges is one of the many frauds which require abolishing”
