The Manager of the National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealand, Limited, reports on the local grain market as follows :—Shipping wheat is quieter and weaker at ss 3^ Ss 4d ; malting barley is dull at 3s gd to 4s 4d i oats, New Zealand milling, rather weaker, 3s 4d to 3s sd; Oats, New Zealand, in bond, slow of sale, 2s Sd to as yd. THE NEW GOLDFIELD. Adelaide, October 20. The Government geologist who retnrned from the Wankaringa gOldfieids, brought with him several nuggets. Considerable excitement has arisen here over the discovery of gold at Wankaringa. A large number of men have left for and are still proceeding to the field. Many miners also have been attracted from Wallaroo and Moonta. CABLE SUBSIDIES. Melbourne, October 21.
Mr Derham, Postmaster-General, replying to the proposal of Mr Sutter, Postmaster-General of New South Wales, that Victoria should contribute to the subsidy for the New Zealand cable, stated that the Victorian Government declined to contribute except on a Federal basis, which should include all cables connecting with Australia.
A RUSH. * Several persons have left Melbourne for the Wankaringa goldfields. Adelaide, October 21 Hundreds of persons are leaving Adelaide for the Wankaringa goldfield. The Government geologist reports that gold is distributed generally over the ficid. __
