The following Is from the Tiniaru Herald :—For many years It has been ki own that gold is to be found in the Mackenzie Country, but there has never been any thorough system of prospecting for the purpose of ascertaining If the precious metal could bo oltdned In payable quantities. Lately several specimens of quartz have been brought d n wn to Fairlle Creek showing very fair indications of gold.- To set all doubts at rest, a thorough search of the country is about to be made by Mr W. Close and Mr E Moore of Falrlie Creek. The former has had considerable experience in gold digging, and is thoroughly well up (n the testing of minerals The two men have made preparations for a th ee months’ prospecting tour, and are taking with them all the necessary apparatus. Starting from Fairlie Creek they , intend to proceed to .Sherwood Downs, and from there, skirting along the foot of the ranges, make their way to lake Tekapn, and thence to Mount Cook. The result of the prospecting tear will be looked forward to with interest.
