NEW GOLDFIELD. Adelaide. October 14
The Commissioner of Lands has repeiyed a letter reporting that an alluvial goldfield has been discovered at Nankaringa and is expected to prove a great success. A nugget weighing an ounce has been found on the field. NEW SOUTH WALES PARLIAMENT. Sydney, October 13. The vote of censure on the Government, proposed by Sir H. Parkes, was negatived in the Legislative Assembly last night by 58 to 38. An amendment, moved by Mr Abbot, on the proposed vote of censure, favoring retrenchment and additional taxation, was carried. The session is expected to come to a close at the beginning of next week. AUSTRALIAN HARVEST. . PROSPECTS. MILBOtTRHE OCober 14.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company report that the accounts of the Victorian wheat crops are favorable, the crops baying been Improved by the rain, and it is hoped shat the yield >yill be larger than last year. As regards South Australia, accounts are conflicting. From some districts the yield are reported to be much larger than last year, but in others only above average. MELBOURNE WOOL SALE. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company held the .second sale of the season this afternoon to an
increased attendance of Home and [ foreign buyers. A strong demand continues for good qualities, last week’s improvement in prices being firmly maintained. There is no material change to report; 1700 bales were offered, and 100 (sic) sold, greasy realising up to is per lb, scoured up to x per lb.
IMPERIAL INSTITUTE. Melbourne. October 15 Sir P. Jennings, Premier of N.S.W., in reply to Mr Gillies’ proposal to consider -£20,000 inadequate as the joint contribution by the colonies towards the proposed Imperial Institute, recommends that £30,000 or £40,000 should be subscribed The South Australian Government has expressed its inability to increase its proportion of £30,000 proposed by Mr Gillies. The Victorian Government suggest that municipalities should contribute to the institute.
