The Ashburton Borough School Committee, at the suggestion of one of the members (Mr Elston), has decided to have the photographs of the pupils entitled to first-class attendance certificates affixed to the cards. The second-class certificates will have illuminated borders, and the cards will in after years form very pleasing souvenirs of the school days of the recipients. An open Lodge meeting of Lodge Star of the East, 1.0.G.T., took place last evening in the Orange Hall, when there was a large attendance of brethren and friends. The chair was occupied byfMr J. W. An excellent programme, consisting of songs, readings, and recitations, was then entered upon, the various items eliciting frequent and welldeserved applause, Mrs Flowers, Miss Steele, and Messrs Flowers, Colyer, Martin, and Potter rendering excellent service. Mrs Tippets presided very skilfully at the piano, and during the interval tea and coffee, provided by the Lodge, were dispensed for the refreshment of the audience. Altogether a very pleasant evening was spent, and after a vote of thanks to all the friends who had assisted, proposed by Bro. A. Cook, D.D., the proceedings were brought to a close by the singing of the National Anthem. The programme of the annual fmeeting of the Tinwald Racing Club is published elsewhere. It needs no comment :—Mr Loveday, of the Bullia Mountain, writes to us that after suffering for four years with acute gravel, he has experienced almost complete relief by using Sander and Sons’ Eucalypti Extract. He says seeing tha said Extract advertised in the Illaivurm Mercury his intense suffering induced him to obtain a bottle of the medicine from Mr Hosking, chemist, of this town, and that the use of it gave him great relief at once. He states that between the 10th March instant, when he obtained the first bottle of the extract, and on the 19th, the use of that medicine continued to afford him relief, to which he had been a stranger for four years. Mr Loveday writes also that he has found the Eucalypti Extract a cure of rheumatism as well as gravel. He requests us to pub’ish this information through tha Mrrcvnj. We have much pleasure in complying with Mr Loveday’? request, whose word cannot be doubted, and who can have no object in view other than a pure desire to benefit Buffering humanity.”— (Am').
