An anarchist plot to set fire to timber yards and public buildings in this city has been frustrated by the authorities, and a quantity of dynamite has been seized. TROUBLE IN BURMAH. Rangoon, October 9. News has been received that a force of 3000 Shans have burned and looted the town of Kivenhapa. Strong reinforcements were despatched from Mandalay, and succeeded in driving the rebels to the hills. IMPERIAL INSTITUTE. Tjo»D'in. Octi ber 9 The Imperial Institute will be opened next year on the site of the present Colonial and Indian Exhibition until permanent buildings shall have been erected. THE SCULLING HANDICAP. The first heat of the Welsh Harp Handicap was rowed on the Thames to-day, when Wallace Ross and Perkins beat Neilson, who is consequently ont of the final heat, THE IRISH QUESTION. The Daily News to-day publishes an article in which it stales that Government are preparing an Irish scheme on the basis of providing a National Council for each of the four provinces, Ulster, Leinster, Munster and Connaught.
LONDON MARKETS. The total quantity of wheat afloat for the United Kingdom is i,620,000qr5, jo.oooqrs less than last week. New Zealand mutton is selling at from 4d to 4^<J. Three per cent consols, 100^. New Zealand Securities—Four and a half per cent 5-30 loan, cent 10 40 loan, iooj£ ; four per cent inscribed stock, 9S. Adelaide wheat, ex store, 355; Adelaide flour, 245; New Zealand wheat, highest, 335; lowest, 28s. Beef tallow, 235; mutton tallow, 25s 6d.
