Messrs Miles and Co. reportAt the Ashbnrton County Saleyards on Tuesday, a large entry of sheep came forward, for which business was good. The attendance was large, and with a better inquiry a fair sale resulted, very few quitting the yards unsold. Crossbred wethers in forward condition sold from 9s fid to 11s 9d; mixed crossbreds to 10s fid; crossbred hoggets, 6s to 88 ; merino wethers, 6s fid ;do ewes in lamb, to 5s 9d. Cattle at late quotations. Messrs H. Matson and Co. report :—Our usual sale created a catalogue of a satisfactory character. We notice a tendency at this jeonntry mart, as well as others, to “ fall into the error of the past ” in foolish competition and strained values for store sheep. Now we are the last people to cry down (values, but we certainly do caution out farmers from becoming rabid in this season’s values. All we say, “ be careful, do not run away with the barrows, and have no teeth left.” For the past three years our farmers and buyers generally have not exercised that caution which should govern the actions of a “ rent and interest payer ” ; let reason, based upon calculation, govern your actions.
