CHRISTCHURCH HORSE MARKET.
Messrs H. Matson and Co. report for the week ending 23rd instant: —At Tattersall’s on Saturday last our entry consis'ed of 50 horses only, of which number 16 were unbroken, and the balance broken horses of various descriptions. With reference to trade there is no alteration to report, a fair demand still existing for any young useful sorts in the way of draught stock, in fact for horses of this sort the enquiry is in excess of the supply. For horses out of condition there is not such a ready sale, inasmuch as with stock suitable for farm work, they are wanted for immediate nse, and of this latter class, i.e., low-con-ditioned horses, there are a large portion coming forward. Both in Heavy and light ■took good sorts can be quitted without much difficulty, but other descriptions are somewhat neglected. At our sale on Saturday we sold— Plough horses, £l2 to £l4; unbroken colts to £ls 15s; medium class hacks and light harness horses, £lO to £l4; ordinary do, £5 to £7; spring cart horses, £8 to £l2.
