ISLAND BAY RACING CLUB.

Wellington, Sep* ember 24 The annual meeting of tho Island Bay Racing Club having been allowed to lapse, an extraordinary general meeting waa called last night. Mr Goldsmith, a shareholder, to k exception to the meeting as illegal and insisted that the Directors were personally responsible for all expenditure since the date of tho regular annual meeting. The Chairman brought forward the opini in of tho C rnipany’a Solicitor to the effect thatjthe present couran was tho proper method to get out < f tho diffi u’ty, and though, Mr G ildsmith questioned that gentleman’s law, the meeting then wei ton It appeared from the report that ton months working had produced about seven per cent profi - . The Chairman referring to the ao'iort of tho Metropolitan Club said that the I-land Bay Club had adopted the rules and become a Metropolitan Club before the Welling!- n Racing Club had done so. They had been asked to submit the matter to arbitration but the directors would not do anything cf tho kind. The report ard balance-sheet were adopted after obj-c'iors on the part if Mr Goldsmith, which were either explained or overruled. A proposition to reduce salary to £IOO was received with miny s : gns of cisapprobation, and found no supporters, members speaking highly of Mr Bell’s services. Dr Newman and Mr Roxburgh were elected Directors and the meeting terminated.
