CHERTSEY FARMERS’ LEAGUE.
A meeting cf tho Chertsey Farme s league was held in the Chertsey Motel last evening. There was but a small attendance, and Mr W. Btrachan occupied the chair. Af er some routine business of tho League had been disposed of, and a motion proposed and ca tied to tho effect that >u future tho League endeavour to obtain tho ase of tho Public Library for its meetings, Messrs Eusor and Bruce, who a ( tended hs a deputation of delegates from tho Farmers’ Co-operative AssooAti tit, of Christchurch, addressed the moctiog, and rendered every Information connected with the work ng of the institution which they represented. Jo'V-ral of »lu> members of tho League oxprca-so.l tho ori lion that they had hoped that tho Directorate of the Cooperative Association would have soon their way to have established a branch depot at Chertsey, but it was explained that- In the present state of the Association ss oh an extension of its business could not. for ration* reasons, bn entertained. Applications had boon received from many C'untry districts for the establishment of hrancho”, as a moans of chocking the ox I-intonate charges of c -unti y storekeepers, tut they had, in the meantime, until tho Association gained in to financial stability, to be dic'ined. In the future, however, the establishment of branches would have to be attended to as tho business of the Association attained farther development. Messrs Bruce and Ensor further explained, that in the obtaining of (supplies from the Asst elation they should combine and send their orders, say monthly or bi monthly. ail together, to as to save some of the very expensive railway freight. Sev<ral members of the League, then expressed regret that a branch not at once bo opened at Chertsey for the sale of the Associations stores, but it was siurseated that the difficulty might be oveiCTna by tho appointment of a local shareholder, es a sort of agent to receive and distribute goods which might be ordered from time to time from the Association. The League decided to give tho matter farther considerate n A hearty vote of thanks was then accorded to Messrs Ensor and i ruce for the very exhausiive information they had conmueicated regarding tho working and state financially of tho Farmers’ Cc- < pon-tive Astocia'ion. Several farmers filled up implications f-r shores in the room. The mealing then c’. sed with the usual compliment to tho chair.
