Christchurch, September 15
The return match between the Sydney footballers and the Canterbury team took place to-day at Lancaster Park. In the Sydney team Shaw, Austin, and Carr took the places of Allan, Blanchard, and Walker. The game was faster than the previous one, but in the first spell Canterbury scored rapidly, making 15 points Webb, Helmore, Horner, an d Bean scored tries, from one of which Boan kicked a goal. Francis potted a magnificent goal from the fie’d. In the second spell the Sydney men livened up, and frequently got the ball into their adversaries’ quarters, but the Canterbury forwards soon removed the danger. Canterbury only scored two more points, a try being obtained by Fooks, from which Bean took the kick, but missed. When time was called Canterbury had won the match by 17 points to nil.
