MOUNT SOMERS ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Mount Somers Road Board was held at Mount Somers on Monday. Present— Messrs Macfarlane (in the Chair), Edaon and Harrison.
CORRESPONDENCE. (1.) A letter was read from Mr W. 0. Walker, U.H 8., in reference to the extension of railway stating ha would press the matter on the Minister for Public Works’ attention.—(2.) Mr H, Knight applied for permission to lead water from gravel pit to his section, and asked for timber to construct a flumiug.—The Board had no objection to allow the water to be taken provided adjoining landowners were willing, but could not undertake ti provide the timber. [Mr W. 0. Walker now took bis seat and the Chair.] (3.) From Mr G. Helem asking for proceeds of a horse belonging to him sold in the Mount Somers ponnd. It transpired that there was another claimant for the horse and the Board decided to enquire into the matter (4 ) From Mr W. C. Walker statiug that the Minister for Public Works had promised to provide necessary sheep yards at Mount Somers railway stfct'on. (5 ) From Property Tax Commissioner notifying alterations required to be made la roll —The Chairman and Clerk were authorised to attend to the matter. (6 ) Circular from Mr Badger re Local Bodies Guide —lt was decided to procure one ccpy.
PETITION. A petition was read from a number of ratepayers requesting that about 90 chains of the tramway road be shingled.—The Board determined to take the matter into consideration later on in the season OVERS BEK’S REPORT. The Overseer’s report was read.
It vu resolved to send an account to Mr D. Forbes for clearing gone on his road.
[Mr Peacbe here took his seat]. It was resolved to advertise for fenders for hoping river fords in repsir. I was replied that all woika under £SO be notified on notice boards to be erected at Mount Somers railway station and Stevenson's store.
It was resolved to repair Rutherford and Boyle’s crossings and to defer doing anything to Hewsoo’s crossing until Mr Stott had arranged for bis protective work.
FORD AND NEWTON’S ROAD. Mr Cooper asked if the Board would conrittuto £4 > towards extending metalling on Ford and Newton’s read provided ratepayers found a like amount. Deferred for future consideration, ENCROA_ -ENT. Mr Harrison m—.vioned that the contractor for the Gorge Board was apparently encr aching on Road Reserve in taking out shingle. He said that the metal put on the road was also too large —The Clerk was instructed to write to the County Council calling their attention to the matter, and asking that the contractor be required to make any damage good, BrCCLEfCH ROAD, It was resolved to do half a chain more metalling on this road. ROAD BOARD COTTAGE. The question of repairs to Road Board cottage was left in the hands of the Chairman. COMBINATION OF OFFICES Mr Harrison moved, Mr Edson seconded, and it was carried “ That applications be invited from competent persons for the position of Overseer to the Mount Somers Road Board. He will be required to act as clerk. Rate Collector and Returning Officer. Applicants to state the amonnt of salary required; duties to commence November 1 ”
COMPLIMENTARY Mr Edson moved, MrPeache seconded, and it was carried—“ That a hearty vote of thanks be accorded Mr Walker f>t his strict attention to the interests of the district daring the last session of Parliament.”—Mr Walker suitably returned thanks for the compliment. The Board then adjourned.
