Football. ' Wellington, September 3. The Sydney football team, who arrived here at one o’clock by the Botorua, were met by the local team and a large number of footballers. They were driven to the Occidental Hotel. The weather promises to be fine for the match, which will be plaved at Newtown to-morrow afternoon. The ground will be in good condition, pro vided there is no more rain. Fatal Fire at Unnetlin. Dunedin, September 3. A fatal fire occurred in Walker street at six o’clock this morning, resulting in the death of an old woman named Mrs Joyce, better known as “ Granny " Joyce. ' She lived in a oue-rooraed shanty at the back of the Rising Sun hotel and is supposed to have been silting by the fire ail night and then, falling asleep, to have fallen into the fire. The house, which belonged to Mr Elson, was very old and burned very rapidly, and by the time the brigade arrived it was too late to s tve the woman’s life, bhe had, on several occasions, been an inmate of the Hospital and Benevolent Institution but could not be induced to stop there. .
