ADDINGTON LIVE STOCK MARKET

At Addington Yards yesterday, there was a small market in all departments, but it proved a remarkably spirit id one. Butchers have laely been unable to keq> reserves of stock in their paddocks on account of the bad weather, and came to market quite oat of stock ; and exporters gave important strength to the blodmgs for sheep. Sheepowners, however, must be prepared f>r a relapse as soon as the present p-essing requirements for freiz n.' are satisfied, and fuller supplies are also available. The attendance was about an aveiagt ore. Cattle.—There wore few fat cattle forward, but the quality was generally good, and the demand beirg very keen, pr ces advanced considerably. A capital line from Leslie Hills attracted much attention, and the bu'bcks sold at £lO a head, and the fat cows at £3 10s to £9 ss. Prime beef sold equal ti 27a 6 1 pec 100. b ; ordinary, 22* 61 to 255. Of store, a few forward steers sold fairly well at up to £5 10a, but there was liitle demand for any other descriptions, the country being too wet. Some dairy stock sold at late values.

Sheep,—The simply was very small, and though the .rity were light descriptions, some good weight lines were also for war!. All descriptions met with giod cnnpiitition, butchers being bare of stock, and exporters forced to buy to fill shipping engagements, and the result was a clearance at a sharp advance oa last week’s values. Towards the middle cf the sale the rise was as much as 3s to a head, and further on, in exceptional cases, even a greater advance was realised. Best mutton must bo quoted on the day 3d to 3£ 1 per lb ; ordinary lines 2£d per lb Moiars Gould and Cameron’s cross-bred ewes were again a feature of the market,, and sold at from 16i 65 to 18j 6J. Mr D. Dolan topped the sale with a grand Hue of cross-bred wethers at 18s to 20j. Good merino wethers, sent from Mr C. 6. Hawdon, sold at IQs 91 to 12s 91 ; and f.-om Messrs T. and E. Chapman, 13s 6d. cross-bred wethers sold at 14i to 17s 61; light and m'diliog weights, 9i to 13s ; good merino wethers, 10s to 13i 6d ; ordinary, 61 to 9s. Store sheep were a small entry, There was a better demand for good hoggets, and a line of Down-crosses brought 6a, Aline of old merino ewes sold at Is 9i.

Pigs.—There was a small supply of pork, with only here and there a good r aoon pig. The sale was the cheapest of the season, the best baconers going at the equivalent of less than 31 per lb; white porkers by the pound were even lower. Stores sold at very low prices, and suckers could hardly be given away, — Times.
