The ordinary monthly meeting of the g{ Mount Somers Road Board was held at {c the Board’s office, Mount T Somers, on lg Monday. 0 OVBFSEBR’s RE POET. The overseer’s report was read and adopted. f, ENCROACHMENT. r Mt Stott waited on the Board with reference to storm water from a flood g channel which he slated was washing away g his section. WATER. It was resolved to give a ratepayer who allowed the water from a private waterrace to run on to a road a fortnight’s notice to abate the nuisance ROAD. The overseer was instructed to report upon the state of the roads up the Ashburton gorge. ‘ BAXIATiY. Mr Macfarlsne moved : ‘ ‘ That Mr W. O. Walker, M. HR. be requested to urge the Government to open railway at Monnt Fomers as soon as crtnolele and »l«o to use Us Influence to have the farther extension proceeded with without delay”. Mr ff >rr t«nn seconded the motion, which was carried. BATE DECLARATION. The clerk was instructed to make the necessary declaration with a view to* obtaining the subsidy due to the Board from Government. PETITION. A petition was received from fortyeight ratepayers protesting against the injustice of charging any portion of Ihe cost of making or repairing any roads in the district to private individuals, ar.d also praying that the offices of clerk and overseer be combined.— Consideration was deforced until there shonld be a full meeting oi the Board. TENDERS. Tyo tenders were received for groin at Sandy’s Knob. Both were considered too high. —Mr Harrison undertook to confer with the overseer and ascertain if the matter could bo dealt with In a less expensive way. , „ „ , The tender of J. Oarleton, at Is Id per yard, for shingling Bucol uch Road was accepted. ~ , The Board then adjourned.
