Welmnoton, Jalf 28 The greater part of this afternoon was taken up by a discussion as to the treat - meat of anconvioted prisoners, It being complained of as a hardship that Te Whiti and the other Maori prisoners now In the Terraie Gaol are deprived of tobacco. The discussion was cut short by the 5.30 adjournment. This evening, the Gold Duty Reduction Bill was passed through Committee, and the House is now debating the North Island Trunk Railway 1 Doan Application BUI. I learn that your member, Mr Hvess, has obtained a promise from the Government that tenders will be invited for a mail service between Chertsey and Pendarves, and that Mr Newlyn is to be appointed Postmaster at the last-named place. Mr Ivess has also been promised that the petition asking for yards and facilities iov trucking cattle and sheep at the Hinds shall be given effect to.
