The official journal to-day, m an article on the New Hebrides question, states that the occupation of the group by France is only temporary and solely for the protection of French colonists. Jt adds that the hnglish and French Governments are now engaged studying modus vivtnii in view of taking joint steps for the maintenance of order in the Islands.
