A CURIOUS DISEASE

A most serious epidemic has broken oat on CJoonong Station, New South Wales, the property of Mr S. McOaughey, amongst the horses of the station. A recent despatch tays: Since Sunday six very valuable horses have died, and ten others have been attacked, some of which are dying. The exact nature of the disease la not known at present. A post mortem, was made by the inspector of attck, which showed that the lungs were very much enlarged anl protruding ; the passage of the throat was almost cioied by the enlargement of the tongue. The other organa were healthy. Two dot,s, which were chained close to the stable, were attack'd by the disease. One is dead, and th» other nearly dead. Nothlig like this disease has ever been known in the district before. One of the horses which has died is a stallion valued at 400 guineas and the others are valuable hunters and draught horses. The Government veterinary surgeon, and Mr Day, private veterinary surgeon, visited the station te Investigate the matter. They have telegraphed that the disease is local, there being no evidence of an epidemic. The post mortem appearancs learly indicate the < fleets of poisonous citation symptoms, acd the progress of the disease is unusual and ambiguous Five more horses are dead, and eleven are now under treatment by Mr Day.
