The Colonial Treasurer, Mr Gillies, Financial Statement in the Legislative Assembly this evening. He estimates the revenueat ,£6,970,000 and the expenditure at £6,910,000. The revenue for the past financial year was £6,420, 000, and the expenditure £6,820,000, and the actual surplus at the commencement of current financial year was -£30,000. Mr Gillies proposes to increase the ad valorem duties upon woollen goods and piece woollens to 20 per cent, and made up woollens to 30 per cent,
Melbourne, July 21
In the Financial Statement last night, the Treasurer showed the net income of the Railways to be which returns 4 per cent on the capital, the Hobsons Bay Railway returning 7*4 per cent. The Treasurer stated the Post Office was showing an annual loss of ;£i 09,000.
