ERUPTION OF TARAWERA
Auckland, July 19 Three more bodies of Natives were found at Tokinedo, Wairoa, making 13 in all Te Koo i having prophesied Roto Iti is to be destroyed by fire, the Natives have cleared out bag and baggage, emlgragrating to Awahou, no. r Ohinenmtu. Professor Hutton states th*t Lake Rotorua tilted several inches during the Tarawera eruption, the Rotorua side becoming depressed and the northern side higher, but no further change had occurred since. BELIEF OF THE SOFFEBEBS Wellington, July 19. At the invitation of the Governor, some forty or fifty members of both Houses had a conference with him this afternoon on the subject of the Tarawera eruption. Colonel Brett moved, and Mr l argavillo seconded —“ That a Committee be formed of the Governor, the two Speakers, and three members fr. m each House, to consider the best means of affording relief to the sufferers by the eruption.” It wan afterwards decided to add the Mayor and Chairmen of the local bodies to the Committee. It was suggested by His Excellency that a monster carnival might be held on Soames’ Island, in the harbor.
