ASHBURTON COURSING CLUB.
Tho third mce.ing of the Ashburton Contains; c’ub was commenced on tho Lmghtncr estate yesterday. Hares were plen'iful bat very wild, and only ten courses were decided during the day, Mr D. M. Ross acted as Judge and gave complete satisfaction. Mr M. Digby as Slip Steward, and Mr W. Zander as Flag Steward rendered good services, and Mr James Porter slipped with his usual succeo. The weather was all that could be desired and there was a good attendance of the followers of the leash. AGED STAKES First Round —Maid of the Heath was fiitt away, led to the hare, turned .And fell. Korero then took command, rapidly worked off the score against him and won. First 1.0r.t was quickest from slips and scared ih® first torn by a d z-a lengths. TR Hit then got in for two, but again gave way to F> at Lord, who won eat L. Aker* corn ran a bye. Second Round —Abercorn led up and secured the first turn. The hare then favored Ke:erowh>', once in, could never be displaced and won easily. First Lord ran a bj e. Puppy - tsKes F rat round Agent led up turned, and displaced who t oon balanced matters and left off a good winner. Highland Mary beat Ladybird almost pointless. Yorkshire Lad led Lady Eva by half a d<zia lengths tuned and wrenched. Lady Kva then g< t in but was soon displaced and handsomely beaten. Captain >ligo was the first to ehow in front but Factory B y war mad to his work and won easily. Jack Tir led and beat Butcher’s Ma : d easily.
