MOUNT SOMERS ROAD BOARD.
The usual m-nthly meeting of the Mount Somers Road Board was held at the Board’s office, Mount Somers,yes terday. Present —Messrs Feaclie (Chair man), Edsbn, and Hanieon. overseer’s report. The Overseer’s report was read and considered. •RAHAIt* HOAD. The Overseer was authorised to expend £3 in repairs to Graham's road Mr Ferguson made application for a small cutting on this road, and offered to pay one half cost —The Board agreed to allow Mr Ferguson £1 towards cost
flood water channel It was determined to postpone taking action in connection with flood water channel at Alford Forest until after next meeting.
booth's cutting _ The Board ordered that a drain should be made at the summit of Booth’s cutting to carry off storm water. GORGE ROAD The Clerk was d rected to call for tenders for putting in a groin to protect this road from river encroachment near Sandy’s Knob A BEQUEST. Mr M Fagan applied to the Board for permission to cut timber from Boltons road.—Granted on condition that the applicant clear the road and make it passable for traffic.
RIVER ENCROACHMENT. Mr David Stott waited upon the Board, and asked that something might be done to prevent the river encroaching on his land.—The Overseer was directed to report upon the matter.
GORSK ON ROAD. Mr David Synie interviewed tlm Board with regard to a notice he had received to clear gorse.—it was discovered that Mr Syme was not liable for gorse on road referred to.
BUCCLEUCH HOAD. Me Dugald Maofarlane requested the Board to shingle part of the Bucclench. road. It was resolved to have the work dore.
UNNECESSARY ROAD. gjMt Dugald Macfarlane also requested that a road below Mr Fox's property might be closed.—lt was resolved to comply with the request. Mr Maofarlane stated that the Cbief Surveyor would supply plan and deaer ption for the necessary formalities.
ROAD CROSSING Mr Bignald asked j ermisslou to put in a level crossing on the Tramway road to give acess to ballast pit.—Granted on the usual conditions. BATES, A, letter was read from the Mount Hutt Road Board with regard to rates collectable on portion of district recently aervi d from Mount Somers Road District. —Left In the hands of the Clerk to arrange. POUND. .Mr W Fergus’s tender for pound, at the rate of £5 per annum and fees, for nloe months was accepted TRI ITY HILL CUTTING. Mr Harrison ca’led attention to the rough c mdition of Trinity Hill cutting, and was authorised to have the road cleared of boulders REAVE OP ABSENCE Leave of absence was granted to Ms W. O. Walker, M.H.R., during the session of Parliament.
NOTICES OF MOTION. Mr Pesohe gave notice that ha would propose the following motions at the next meeting of the Board :—(1)_ that the Board determine what are main roads, and what are cross roads in the district; (2) That every ratcpay< r or r- tepayeis be entitled to have one quarter of his or theirjrates expanded on any cross road giving access to his or their land, and that any ratepayer or ratepayers »eqairing expenditure on any cross roads oyer and above one quarter of his or their rates contribute half the surplus any work the Board may consent to undertake.
