MORE FIRES.

Signs of the Times.

Auckland, June 29.

Two more fires < courred this morning, causing great destruction of property. It is believed they were the work of Incendiaries. About 230 a.m. it was discovered St George’s Hall, Surrey Hills, was on fire. It was reported some persona had seen a mam go round the back and set fire to the building. The hall with the Newton Borough office and five unoccupied shops were totally destroyed. Four shops belonged to A. Q, Lee, shop, hall and officers belonged to John Mavnson. While the fire was blazing another alarm was given that a fire had broken out in a house in Randolph street off Newton road. This place was quite close and several of the Brigade ran and extinguished the flames. They found the fire was caused by a bundle of rags saturated with kerosene. After they left this place the fire again broke ont and the building was totally destroyed. This Is bellevedjto be a clear case of arson. The police apprehended the owner, a carter named McCaualand, and his wife.
