ASHBURTON LIVE STOCK MARKET.
Messrs Matson, Cox and Co. report upon the live stock market lor the Ashburton district for the week ending June 22nd as follows :—On Tuesday, at the Tinwald yards, we held our usual weekly sale of sheep, cattle, and pigs. The entry for the day was not % large one, bat the stock that name forwasP
was as a whole of a much better class than has been the rule for some time past, and owing to the late rise in wool prices have somewhat hardened, and crossbred lambs and good two-tooth ewes and wethers met with a ready sale at an advance of fully 6d to Is a head. In fat sheep the demand was very slack, and inferior and second quality suffered considerably, or were turned out unsold. Sales were effected at the following prices : Fat merino ewes of gepd quality, -5s *d ; fairly good crossbreds, 7s 3d to 7s 6d. In stored, crossbred lambs, 3s Od to 4s 3d; 2-tooth wethers, 6s 3d to 6s Bd. Pigs—A small entry; weaners, Is 8i to 2s 6d ; stores, 19s 3d, and for bacon pigs a fair demand at 3d per lb. Cattle—Fat cows, £4 7s 6d to £5 10s; steers, £5 to £6 IGs; springers £5 15s, £6, to £7 17s 6d.
We have also held clearing sales at J. G. Coward’s, at Methven, and James Collins’, at Chertsey, at jvhich there were large attendances, and most satisfactory prices were obtained for all implements, stock, horses, and sundries, the following being the principal items :—Horses —Light draughts, £l4 to £18; heavy ditto, £2O to £33 ; hacks, £4 to £l6; cows, £5 to £8 ss. Sheep—3 and 4-tooth ewes, 7s 3d to 8s ; wethers, 7s 3d; crossbred lambs, 3s 2d to 6s 6d ; merino ewes. Is 4d; sows in pig, from £1 to £2 Is. Implements —McCormick wire binder, £10; drays, £8 10s, £l3los, £l3 ; McSherry drill, £l7 10s; double furrow ploughs, £6 to £8 ; single furrow, £1 to £2 os. In properties we have still plenty of inquiries for small farms of good quality, and could readily place several if in the market. We have let Mr Coward’s farm, at Methven, at a most satisfactory price, also Mr Collins’, at Chertsey, and sold the latter gentleman's farm at Dromore, containing 200 "* acres. We have further let a thousand acres at Temuka for a term of seven years.
