WRECK OF THE LYTTELTON.
PRELIMINARY ENQUIRY. Timaru, June 14
The preliminary enquiry into the wreck cf the Lyttelton will be bold this afternoon at two o’clock before the Collector of Customs. The vessel still rests on an oven keel, but tho waves are washing over her, Mr Merchant, Engineer of the Harbor Board, while taking soundings came across something about ten chains from the ship sho ewards, but ho does not know yet what it is—whether the Lytelton’s auehor, some wreckage, or a rock. The vessel will bo sold by auction tomorrow. Later.
At the preliminary enquiry now being held press representatives are not permitted to bo present. The Collector of Customs is underato d lo bo acting under instructions from the MariueaDepartmeut, Wellington.
