ASHBURTON RACING CLUB.

The annual raaetiug of tbe members o the Ashburton Racing Club was held a the Club’s rsom on Saturday erening. There was a fair attendance and Mr C. W. Purnell, Chairman of tne Com mittoe, presided.

ANNUAL REPORT,

The annual report of the Committee waa read as follows. —Your Commit ee has very much pleasure in presenting a statement of accounts for its term of office, and in congratulating members upon the fact that the Club is again re* stored to a satisfactory financial position. Yonr Committee started the year with ] a debit balance of £24G 11a 6, but by a rigorous policy of economy has succeeded in reducing this liability to £SO 18s 3d, while sums due to the oinb, which, will bo immediatly forthcoming, amount to rather more than £IOO. Prom these figures it will be gatUered that tho Club during the year has practically bettered its position by nearly £3OO, and this notwithstanding a falling olf of £l4O in the amount received for privileges. Your Committee regrets that the efforts made to extend the membership of the Club have not proved successful The amount received by way of subscriptions is rather less than the small sum received from the I same source last year. Your Committee thought it desirable to hold both the annual race meat I age of the Club later than on,previous years, and although the Commute was very unfortunate in the matter of weather, the experiment, otherwise, waa encouraging. Ac your mee in this evening you will be required to elect officers for the ensusing year. The course is at present let for cropping purposes at 12s 6i an acre a year. Vour Committee propose that the course ah mid be let for a second crop and then laid down in grass. The new Committee, however, will have to arrrange these matters, and consider me desirableness of top dressing the course and effecting other improvements.
