The French Government, in reply to the enquiries of the English Foreign Office, have announced officially that the object of despatching a French man-of war to the New Hebrides was to protect French subjects, owing to recent massacres by Natives. Troops will be landed at point threatened with attack. Possibly a temporary station may be established, but the movement has no political object.
