ASHBURTON GUARDS.

The Chairman congratulated the members on the success of their first year's operations, and said he considered to be without debt at the end of twelve months of the trouble incidental to the inauguration of the company was encouraging for the future. He also ra--1 ferred, in less flattering terms, to those who having embarked with those present m the undertaking, had deserted their colors. Those, he felt, could be well spared, and the company would have no reason to deplore their absence. Captain Purnell (ihe first Captain of the Corps) was accorded a hearty vote o f thanks, and was unanimously elected a life member of the compiny. Votes of thanks for donations to the corps were a’so tendered to Lieutenant Restell and Private D, Macfarlane. A Finance Committee,' comprising Sergeant Gates, Corporal Purchase, and Privates Keir and Macfarlane, was elected. A Committee was appointed to confer with the Ashburton Bifles with regard to the annual ball.
