Alleged Murder.

The hearing of the charge of murder against William Rowland commenced on Tuesday and c mcluded jesterday. Accused was committed for trial. The evidence showed that deceased and accused quarrelled over a partnership contract on the night previous to the murde-. Early next morning a Maori heard the report of a gun, and accused came to him and said a European was mad and shooting at him. The Native saw a man come nut of the white all bleeding and go away in the direction of an hotel. Accused reported the affair to the police, and on making enquiries they arrested him. Deceased shortly before he died eworo on oath that he was stirring porridge for breakfast, when the accused shot him. Accused told the police deceased (Neave) had been brooding abrnt money and shot himself, and tried to kill him (-ceased) with an axe. The medical evidence proved that the wound had not been self inflicted, and further evidence showed that deceased was a quiet, s her and industrious man, with no sign of mental delusion. His life was insured for L3OO, and he had L2OO on de; imt. which he left to his mother in England.
