WAKANUI ROAD BOARD.

A special meeting of the B >ard took ic.tt on Wednesday May 25 li Present —Messrs Bruce, G. Cole, J. Brown and W. T Lill. CHAIRMAN. A petition was received calling the attention of the Board to the unsatisfac tory condition of Leadley’sand Butterick's drain, and asking the Board to under take certain works as a preventative to further loss.

Messrs S. Wright and N. Fitzgerald interviewed the Biard >n support of the petition. After considerable discussion in which it was pointed out that all drains were under the control of ihe County Council, and Mr Brown moved, Mr Cola seconded, it was carried : —“That as the public drains and water courses in the district have been placed wholly under the control I the County Council by the Public Works Act, of 1882,[the Beard must decline to interfere further ihan is necessary for the protection of the District Roads." It was aiso resolved, “That on account of the complaints made to the Board by Messrs Corbett an 1 Fizgeia’d, the drain leading’from Leadley’s road to the creek bo temporarily stopped, with the consent of the County C mncil, in order to lessen the risk of damage likely to be done by storm water to the public road and to Messrs Corbett and F; zgeraid’s properties’’ “That if the Wakanui creak is a public watercourse the B >ard would recommend to the County Council that a storm channel from Butterick’s road along Stanley Rea* t» Wakanui Creek he made In order to relieve Leadley’s and Butterrik’a drain” :— ‘ That a copy of foregoing resolutions and the petition received be at once forwarded to the County Council." The B >ard then adjourned the meeting to Saturday May 29m at 11 a.m.
