ADDINGTON LIVE STOCK MARKET.
The following is from Messrs Matson’s report of date 13th inst For yesterday’s Addington sale a fairly large supply of fat sheep came to hand, the yards being well tilled, though not crammed to excess In a full market it would be unreasonable to suppose that there was not a certain proportion of prime sheep yarded, but, as regards yesterday’s entry, these were rather the exception than the rule, the bulk consisting of medium class mixed crossbreds, ewes, and a line or so of merino wethers. The remarks above, referring to quality, were fully borne out in this latter class of sheep, a few pens of merinos being sent to hand that would do credit to any market, the other lots being barely second rate. At the opening of the sale a slightly improved trade was noticeable, especially tor the best classes, and last week’s rates were fully sustained, a slight rise being noticeable in some instances. As tho auction progressed, however, competition became somewhat weaker, and any slight advantage gained byowners at the early sales had to be again conceded. Trims heavy-weight crossbred wethers sold at from lls to 12s lid—an exceptional lot to lls ; medium weight, Os to 10s (id ; good mixed crossbreds, 7s to 7s 0d ; ewes, lls (>d upwards ; prime merino wethers, 7s to 7s Od ; extra good 8s Od to Os lid; medium 5s upwards. Of the few fat lambs ollerod about half were sold, prices ranging from Is lid to 5s Od. Of fat cattle there was just a moderate entry, tho weights and quality of which varied considerably, though second-class lines predominated. For the best lots trade was a shade tinner, and prime steer beef ranged up to 20s per 1001 b; medium, 17s to 18s lid.
