UPPER ASHBURTON ROAD BOARD.
A meeting o! the Upper Ashburton Board Board was held yesterday, in the Board’s office, Tinwald. Present —Messrs McLean, Stitt, and Sargent. The Returning Officer’s report was read, and the result of the election for members of the Board was announced to be as follows :—For Lagmhor Ward, Mr D. McLean; Westerfield Ward, MrC.J. Harper; Forks Ward, Mr Isaac Sargent; Winchmore Ward, Mr M.Stitt; Hakatere Ward, Mr Joseph F. Foster. Accounts were passed for payments, and the Board adjourned. ANNUAL MEETING OF RATEPAYERS. The annual meeting of ratepayers In the Upper Ashburton Boad District was held at the Bond Board’s office, Tinwald, yesterday at noon, when eight ratepayers and the ■ members of the Board were present. The report and balance sheet, as audited, were then read and it was unanimously resolved, on the proposal of Mr W. Silcock, seconded pb Mr W. Southerland, that the report and balance sheet be received and adopted. After complimentary votes had been recorded to the retiring members the meeting separated. MEETING OF THE NEW BOARD. Immediately after the annual meeting, the new Board held its first meeting. Present— Messrs McLean, Sargent, Stitt and Foster. The Clerk occupied the chair. It was proposed by Mr McLean that Mr Stitt act as Chairman for the ensuing year. Seconded by Mr Sargent. Mr Stitt said he was of opinion that the distance he lived away from the office would be a serious inconvenience, and he begged to* decline the proffered honor, and also to propose that Mr D. McLean act as Chairman for the year. Mr Foster seconded the proposal, which was carried- Mr McLean then took the chair. The Clerk reported that the Auditor had examined the books, and commented upon the expenditure of the funds for birds eggs, The remainder of the report was unimportant. The tenders for various advertised works were accepted as follows:—Russell's road, Robert Ennis; 5 acre block road, Oiffin and Sennet; road to Mitcham, Tbos. Blackbam; fords on Great South Boad, T. Blackburn. The Clerk was directed, to begn to sue ratepayers whose rates weri not yetiaid. Works of an unimportant nature were ordered to be inspected so that tenders might be called by next Board day. It was decided to bold the monthly meetings of the Board on the last Monday in each month. All advertisements, &c. to b: given alternately to each local paper. The Board adjourned to 11 a.m. on Monday Kay 31.
