OPAWA COLLISION.
[By Jelkokaph ] Blenheim, To-day. Mr Allen, U.M., in giving judgment in the charges .against Captain Manning of the Waihi, held that ne ought to have sounded the whistle when approaching a dangerous place such as where the collision with the Mobaka occurred, and that no circumstances of immediate danger to his vessel or otherwise existed to justify Captain Manning in not burning lights. If he thought the navigation of the Opawa tendered dangerous by burning them bis safe course was to apply to the proper authorities at Wellington and get a permit to dispense with them. The Coart was unwilling to inflict nominal penalties, but, as notice of appeal was given in both oases on questions of law and fact, he fined Captain Manning L 6 Is and L 3 17s costa in one case, and Lo is and Xj2 9s costa in the other.
