Collision. vV EX.UNOTON, To-day. 4. telegram received here states that a collision took place on the Opawa river, Blenheim, at three this morning between the steamers Waibi and Mobaka. The Waihi was going np the river, end the Mobaka coming down, the vessels meeting at a sharp bend. The Waihi struck the Mohaka about six feet from the stem, cutting her down to the water’s edge. The Mohaka sank in a few minutes. The Waibi is not much injured. [We need hardly say that the Blenheim representative of the Press Association has taken the fullest advantage of the opportunity presented by this catastrophe to set the telegraph vires in operation. We have, lying before ns, a graphic description of the Opawa river, a biography of the two captains, detailed particulars of the vessels, history of the River Board, and a word picture of the collision. We have paid for the telegram with what cheerfulness we could muster, and, as it contains nothing of general interest, have consigned it to the waste-paper basket, where handles of telegrams from the same direction repose.- Ed.
