Consols have further declined J-d, and are now quoted at ex div. New Zealand securities maintain previous quotations. There is no alteration in the market rate. The Bank rate is 2 per cent, being 1 % higher than the market rate. Colonial breadstuffs are unchanged. Tallow —Australian fair average quality beef, 295; mutton, 31s. It is understood that a treaty has been concluded between Germany and the rebel chief Lano, and that Germany has demanded that the Sultan of Zanzibar shall discontinue hostilities towards that chief. The Nord Deutsche Zeitung, a semi-official organ of the Government, referring to the question, disclaims all designs on the part of Germany to acquire territory in Zanzibar, but expresses a hope that England will induce the Sultan to desist from provoking Germany. The N.Z. Shipping Go’s R.M.S. Kaikoura arrived here this morning homeward bound. The meat cargo is in good condition.
