It is understood that a treaty has been concluded between Germany and the rebel chief Lano, and that Germany has demanded that the Sultan of Zanzibar shall discontinue hostilities towards that chief. The Nord Deutsche Zeitung, a semi-official organ of the Government, referring to the question, disclaims all designs on the part of Germany to acquire territory in Zanzibar, but expresses a hope that England will induce the Sultan to desist from provoking Germany.
