OTAGO CENTRAL RAILWAY.

Dunedin, Saturday. A caucus of the Otago members, attended by six M.H R.’s and two M.L.C.’s, three others being unable to attend, was held to-day to consider the position of the Otago Central. Mr Pyke, Chairman, read letters and telegrams from the Ministers, in which it was explained how the line stood, and stating that if any more contracts were let at present it would be a waste of money. After some discussion, it was resolved unam- •; ously that, assuming that the figures as forwarded by the Minister for Public Works to the Chairman are correct, there seems to t.e a balance of L 55,000 of last year’s appropriation still available, and that the Government be urged to place in ha .d without delay, amongst other work, the following :—Foundations of Wingatui visduct and erection of piers, completing of the formation of the Hindon section by contract, proceeding with four bridges on the Taieri river and other streams, and the speedy prosecution of other sections beyond Nenthorne ; that inasmuch as L 30,000 was borrowed and specially allocated by Act of Parliament for expenditure on the Otago Central Railway, the Government be asked to take immediate steps towards making the full amount of this sura availab'o for such railway.”
