ELECTION NEWS.
(By Telegraph.) Wellington, To-day. Writs for the Oomaru and Taaranga elections to the House of Representatives will be issued on Friday, and the elections will take place within six weeks from that date.
Dunedin, To-day.. Mr Buckland received a unanimous vote of confidence at Waikouaiti last night. He hoped the Government would not pro-a the Went Coast railway if the company failed to get the work taken np. He thought highly of Sir Julius Yogel’s local Government proposals, but opposed the cheap money Bill which would not help the clasi intended to be benefited. The proposal was really meant for Canterbury only. He would do all ha could to get for Otago similar railway rates to those in Canterbury. i At Balolufcha, Mr Thomson was questioned about his action in the early part of last session. He said it was a great honor to turn out the Government, and he might turn out another Goverdmehl before long. An amendment simply thanking him for his address was negaI lived by a large majority, and the motion ( for a vote of confidence wascarried.
