CORRESPONDENCE.

We do not hold ourselves responsible forth opinions expressed by our correspondents To the Editor. Sib, — I see by the report of the proceedings at last night’s meeting of the Borough Council'that that body has determined to remove the lamp at present opposite the old Council Chambers. It is possible that the lamp might be placed in a position where it would prove of more use, but I am indeed sarprised to leans that it is to be located at the corner of Burnett and Williams streets, where it oan only benefit very few ratepayers. Had the Council resolved to place the lamp at the corner of Burnett and Cass streets, all the residents in Burnett street Would have been benefitted; and any unprejudiced person must admit that this is the position it should have occupied. There is a large open space there, eight or nine chains, without any building, and on a dark night it is very dangerous. I have on several occasions fallen over tether ropes at this point, and in one instance over a drunken man. Snob accidents, which I can assure you are no trifles, would not occur if a lamp was placed the corner of Cass street. Hoping that some of my fellow ratepayers will take this in hand, and obtain justice from those who have the power to deal it oat to us, I am, etc.,. Robert Elston.
