The carbine and rifle team matches commenced this morning, and immediately after their conclusion the Union Company’s Cup will be fired for, after which the Championship will be decided and the result made known between five and six o’clock this evening. The following are the highest aggregates in the 3rd, 6th, and 9th matches who have to fire ten shots at sCoyds for the Union Oup Paralow, Auckland, 248 ; Watson, Port Chalmers, 247 ; Hummer, Masterton, 242 ; Taylor, Auckland, 241; Fiyger, Wanganni, 240 ; 0. France,' Wellington, 239 ; Ross, Napier, 239 ; 'Purnell, Wanganui, Thomas, Thames, 237; Crisp, Fort Chalmers, Lucas, Thames, | 236; Greenfield, Oamaru; Harris, Wellington, Waters, Port Chalmers, 235 } Foster, Port Chalmers, Griffiths, Blenheim, Hornby, Port Chalmers, Inglis, Thames, Stitt, Wanganui, 234. Hutchison, and Pencan, Wanganui, 233, have to fire off f<>r last place. la the telegraphed list of 20 highest for the Rifle Belt, loglis, Thames, 412 ; Brooks, Dunedin, 406 ; O’Key, New Plymouth, 404, should be added, and flawkes, Thames, omitted. This throws out Thomas and Patton for Carbines. Barriball, Waniku, Beill, Waniku and Payne, 427, have to fire off for last place. 2 p.m. It is now raining heavily. It is doubtful whether the Championship will be decided this afternoon. In the Carbine' Company’s Challenge Match, five men ateam, the following are the highest at the first two ranges Port Chalmers Artillery, 277 ; Auckland Artillery, 272; Wellington Navals, No, 1, 269; Wellington Artillery, No 1, 265 ; Oama u Artillery, 263 ; Alexandra Cavalry, 261; Christchurch Artillery, 261; Napier Artillery, 269 ; Wellington Artillery, No, 2, 254; Wellington Navals, No. 2, 249. For the Rifle Cup Challenge Match, only one range has yet been fired—Victoria Rifles, Auckland, 154; Thames Rangers, 145; Wanganui Rifles, 143; Wanganui City. Rifles, 141; Maaterton Rifles, 140; Blenheim Rifles, 136. At a meeting of the staff this afternoon the protest against Purnell, for using two rifles was allowed, and his score in the third match has been disallowed. He therefore loses all chance'of the Belt. The Napier Carbine team was also disqualified, as two of the team fired out of the same rifle at one of the ranges.
